The Incredable History!

Greenwood, Oklahoma, widely known as Black Wall Street, was a flourishing African American community that epitomized economic prosperity and self-sufficiency in the early 20th century. Established by O.W. Gurley, Greenwood evolved into a thriving district with a bustling business sector, featuring black-owned banks, shops, and entertainment venues. Despite the prevalent racial segregation and discrimination of the time, the community stood as a beacon of success.

The zenith of Greenwood's prosperity occurred in the 1920s, solidifying its status as a center for black entrepreneurship and wealth. However, tragedy struck in 1921 with the racially motivated Tulsa Race Massacre. A white mob rampaged through Greenwood, devastating the district and displacing thousands. Despite this dark chapter, the resilience of the survivors and subsequent generations has kept the memory of Black Wall Street alive. Present-day initiatives to rebuild and rejuvenate Greenwood underscore the enduring spirit of community and economic empowerment in the face of adversity.

  • A Culture Vulture Free Zone

Look, we're all for inclusion and the diverse celebration of Black History. However, it has become increasingly common for NON Black-owned companies to sell Black Culture while also falsely claiming to be Black-owned. This practice of cultural appropriation is not only dishonest but also disrespectful to the Black community. By profiting off of Black culture without actually supporting or empowering Black-owned businesses, these companies perpetuate systemic inequality and contribute to the erasure of Black voices and perspectives. It is important for consumers to do their research and support authentic Black-owned businesses that prioritize social justice, equity, and circulation of the Black dollar; rather than those that simply capitalize on the latest cultural trends.
